Rutile is the mayor of the village. They are also on a constant state of worry of the space program burning down the village and of working to keep Marl from cutting down the tallest tree in the crater.

- Moraine is concerned that Marl doesn't see eyes-to-eyes with Rutile about not cutting down the tree.
- Rutile's remark about the retro-rockets implies knowledge of at least one of the past retro-rocket problems mentioned by Slate.
- Despite their concern about fires and watching the launch from a safe distance, Rutile remains at the base of the launch tower throughout the game.
- As all Hearthians they are named after minerals. Rutile is an oxide mineral composed of titanium dioxide (TiO2).
